Our mission is to test the water quality of the bodies of water around Chicago

About
Project Purpose

To contribute, download the epicollect app on your phone, tablet, etc and add the project form ChicagoWaterQuality. You can contribute by adding on observations and inputs to our epicollect form. Furthermore, you can test the very same chemicals in the water using test kits, and also test for algae, turbidity, and macroinvertebrates using the same or similar methods as we have. Feel free to start a new epicollect form for another city! The more information and analysis, the more we have to compare to different bodies of water. There is no such thing as too much data!

Get Involved

Chicago Water Quality was started by a group of teens through a summer ASM program in 2015. The program TEENS (Teens Exploring and Explaining Nature and Science) at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.

The creators includes Brianna Nesbeth (JCP '16), Dixon O'Banion (WYMHS '18), Liliane Tran (WPCP '18), and Paloma Carroll (chiARTS '18).

We are conducting this project to test whether the many bodies of water around Chicago can support a healthy ecosystem. We are looking for the presence of certain chemicals and bioindicators to determine the health of Chicago’s water.
